The new owners of this 1920s home, located in historic downtown Charleston, wanted to bring the home up-to-date and in-line with their more contemporary style. In the kitchen, we removed the outdated wallpaper and gave the room a fresh coat of paint, providing a neutral palette upon which to build the new space. New cabinetry, countertops, tile backsplash, upgraded appliances and lighting as well as open shelving give the space a more contemporary look and feel. A custom bar with glass-front cabinets, antique mirror backsplash, and hammered metal sink, was added in a small hallway joining the kitchen and living area.
Upstairs, we swapped the locations of the master bath and master closet, allowing the bathroom to benefit from the natural light provided by the two existing windows, once located in the closet. A new double vanity with Cambria countertops, decorative mirrors and elegant wall sconces, tile shower with river rock floor and niches, tile floors and a tub with free standing tub filler give the room a spa-like feel. High tech additions include an iPad with the Savant system and digitally controlled steam shower and heated floor system.
Outside, an existing sunroom was converted to a screened porch to help connect the home to the backyard pool area. The existing sunroom windows were removed, existing columns were repaired, and the porch was reframed. The new screened porch features an Ipe deck floor, copper screening and a two-section screen door.
